Insurance Coverage & Sliding Scale Session Fees

What are your rates?

In the Lee's Summit area, there are a number of options for counseling—and price per session may be one way you are making sense of your choices.  As you consider the prices of counselors, also consider what kind of therapist you want, with what experience, and at what cost, as these will all impact your experience and duration of therapy.

Align KC offers sliding scale session fees, which are adjusted based on financial hardship. Our base rate is $90 per session, however we strive to make counseling affordable. Limited sliding scale spots are available. There’s no pressure — let’s talk.

Insurance Friendly

Align KC is currently unable to be "in-network" with any insurance plan. However, we are insurance-friendly and offer reimbursement options. While some clients may choose not to file with their insurance company for various reasons, it's common for clients to use their out-of-network benefits for reimbursement. We provide clients with a "superbill" (also known as a Statement for Insurance Reimbursement), which can be submitted to their insurance company for reimbursement based on their insurance benefits.

How do I use my insurance to help cover counseling costs?

If you'd like to use your insurance benefits for counseling, we will gladly provide the necessary paperwork to assist with your insurance claim. The superbill includes details such as the counseling service description, date, session billing code, diagnosis code, and more. You will receive two copies of this documentation. Here's a SAMPLE of what the documentation looks like.

If you choose to reimburse from your insurance…

Before our first meeting, please contact your insurance company to verify your outpatient counseling benefits. You can find the customer service number to call on the back of your insurance card. You will want to ask about the following information:

  • Coverage for “outpatient mental health services” from an "out-of-network provider"

  • Coverage for telehealth services (if applicable or desired)

  • The reimbursement percentage and deductible amount for these services.

Why would someone choose not to file with their insurance company?

While our providers are not currently in-network for any insurance plans, there are still benefits available to you. By not directly billing insurance companies, we can offer a more comprehensive therapy experience and expanded clinical services. Here are the advantages of being “out-of-network”:

  • Insurance companies won’t dictate your length of care or the model of therapy you receive.

  • Your privacy is enhanced greatly -– we won’t share your information with anyone (except in cases listed within our informed consent or requested by you through a Release of Information form [ROI]).

  • We are able to focus on your health, strengths, goals, and values in your life rather than dwelling solely on what’s wrong.

  • Insurance companies require that you receive a mental illness diagnosis. This diagnosis is then required to be disclosed on any subsequent insurance policies for which you may apply—including life insurance.

  • There are zero billing surprises – you’ll know up front what you’re responsible for. There are no guessing games regarding coverage, co-pays, and deductibles.  You’ll know from the beginning what to expect.

What payment forms does
Align KC accept?

Payment for counseling is taken by cash or by credit/debit card (Visa/MasterCard/Discover/American Express). We also are able to accept Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards as well. We require that a card-based payment form is kept on file in order to receive care.
